Although by ethnicity I am half Chinese and half Korean, I am extremely proud to be able to say that I am also 100% Canadian. I want to wish all my readers a very happy Canada Day!! I am so grateful to be a citizen of this beautiful, multicultural and accepting country. In this post, I will be sharing all the amazing opportunities I got to partake in to celebrate the 148th birthday of Canada 🙂
Before Canada Day even arrived, I was invited to be a special guest at the Multicultural event organized by the CNLOC to celebrate Canada Day. This event took place on June 20th. I had the amazing chance to represent Burnaby at the event and also perform a tap dance solo for the crowd!
I got to meet many important guests, many of whom were immigrants of China who came to Canada later on in their lives. It was very inspiring to hear their stories and how they came to find success in our country. From all the speeches, it became clearer in my mind that Canada is truly a welcoming country for immigrants around the world.
When Canada Day finally arrived, I went to two different events. First, I went to the Burnaby Village Museum, where there were many historical exhibits about Canada and its development. It was such a bright and sunny day. I took many pictures with people and even got to meet Captain and Mrs. Canada! It was great to meet other royalty 😀
However, the highlight of my Canada Day was being able to participate in the Canada Day Parade at Canada Place in the heart of Downtown Vancouver! It was so great to see some of my fellow BC delegates. I am so thankful for Openroad Lexus at the Richmond Automall and the Vintage Car Club for sponsoring our vehicles for the event.
When we went to onto the street, I felt an absolute sense of joy. It was amazing to see all the smiling faces of the crowd, especially when I got to make direct eye contact with strangers and have a personal connection for a few seconds. It just warmed my heart to see everyone there. I even saw a few familiar faces among the thousands of people!
Although my feet were aching from the heels, my arms sore from waving and my face nearly frozen from smiling for a straight 30 minutes, it was one of the BEST experiences of my life to be in the Canada Day Parade. Also a huge thank you to two my sponsors Play Music Inc. and Orange Corner for allowing my to put your posters on the cars!
All in all, this is a Canada Day that I will never forget and it has been the best one yet in my memories. Hopefully there will be even better Canada Days to come.
