The West 4th Avenue Khatsahlano Street Party is Vancouver’s biggest FREE Music and Arts Festival! Created with love in 2011 by the members of the Kitsilano West 4th Avenue Business Association, this year’s festival will feature EIGHT stages showcasing more than 50 of Vancouver’s top musical performers as well as the eclectic work of local artisans and street performers.” – Khatsahlano website

On July 12th, I modelled for Vancouver Fashion Week and West 4th Avenue for the Khatsahlano Music Festival 2014. It was my first official runway and it was so exciting!

The whole West 4th Avenue was sectioned off just for the festival, and there was a stage on almost every block. Food, music, games, shops, and more were available to the insanely number of people who came, and I was glad to be a part of this event!

I got to model for three designers located on West 4th Avenue: Wear Else, Judith + Charles, and Mavi Jeans. We had two shows in total, one at 1pm for the more sophisticated looks, and one at 5:30pm for the casual brands. I really really enjoyed modelling for these amazing pieces and exploring the different fashion styles offered by these stores!

Thank you to Chris & Sarah for hair, and April & Wendy for makeup!

The day of the show went by super quick. We got to the stage at 9am for rehearsals, hair, makeup, and fittings, and our schedule was TIGHT TIGHT TIGHT! The temperature soon became as hot as an oven, which was unlike Vancouver at all, but the sun scared away all the clouds in the sky and that was a good omen for the day. I was stomping around in my killer pumps until blisters started to form, but that was okay, because there was nothing bandaids couldn’t fix LOL!

The show began, and I was a little bit nervous, I admit. I was originally scared that I would fall off the stage in my “stilts” but when I was actually on stage, my problem changed to keeping a straight face. Because the first show we modelled for more elegant pieces, we were required to look a bit serious, and I was having some issues holding my lips together for some reason (maybe I have big teeth I don’t know). I rocked the second show for the casual looks, mainly because I am really good at looking all cheery and chill on stage after performing dance for so long. Overall I think I did pretty good for my first show, and I have put together a little clip on modelling for Mavi Jeans, check it out.

Thank you to Fiorella Vallejo, our model coordinator, for keeping up with us overly adrenalized models (it was seriously an exciting and hot day), styling us, and instructing us on where to walk, what to do, etc.! Another thank you goes to Jamal Abdourahman, producer of VFW, for such a great show!

6 more days ’till nationals,
